How to wash your mask

How to wash your mask

A mask should be treated like underwear, wash them every day after use. And it is better to have a few, not just one per person.

Masks can be hand washed with soap and water. Do not iron your mask, the spunbond filter does not like the heat of an iron. If you do not have enough masks, and need to get a wet one to dry quickly, you can microwave the mask to get it to dry faster.

Soap vs Sanitizer

Caring for your mask

You may be thinking but I sanitize it, is that not good enough. While sanitizing does help to a certain degree no it is not enough, and here’s why. The coronavirus structure similar to that of oil. Soap is a detergent, its job is to dissolve oil and water together to make removing grease and oily substance easy. Therefor soap and water is better when it comes to removing the microbes from your mask. You can test it yourself try wash oil off your hands with sanitizer and then soap and you’ll find that soap does the trick.

However… this does not mean we can discard the use of sanitizer. Soap is best for removing the coronavirus molecules, but alcohol does a better drop at directly killing the microbes. Unfortunately you are not guaranteed to kill every harmful molecule. That’s why it is best to have a combination of sanitizing regularly, hands first, and to wash your mask daily
